The NSS postings for the 2021/2022 academic year will be released after all the accredited tertiary institutions declare students who are currently writing their final examination graduate students, a staff of the Scheme said on Monday.
Madam Gifty Oware-Aboagye, the Deputy Executive Director (General Services) of NSS in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh said her outfit is waiting for the confirmation of the tertiary institutions to release the postings.
“The service year commences September but most students have not completed school yet and our process is that a student cannot start national service whiles in school, you are supposed to be a graduate to be eligible,” she noted.
The NSS official furthered “most schools have started completing, some are still writing examinations and some are about to do their graduation so when the processes are done Service Scheme will start what we always do.”
According to Madam Gifty, the NSS has engaged stakeholders in the education sector to ensure the delay does not affect the over 120,000 students who have registered to undertake the one-year mandatory service to the nation.
The one year compulsory service period she indicated is used to groom the graduate students most of them have no working experience to know the etiquettes of the service to be employed in the public service.
“The service helps the central government to stop all of the indiscipline and other stuffs of the graduate students, so the national service is a proper economic structure for every government,” the Deputy Executive Director added.
