MoE sends message to students over 2022 BECE registration fee

The Minister for Education, Mr Yaw Osei Adutwum following an allegation that some heads of public Junior High Schools are demanding certain amounts as the 2022 BECE registration fee has asked final year JHS students not to pay.

Dr Adutwum in a discussion monitored by EducationWeb said the registration fee for the 32nd edition of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to be conducted by WAEC has fully been absorbed by the government.

“The government has absorbed the BECE registration fees of all public Junior High Schools. It is not true we have directed heads of schools to demand money for the registration,” the Education Minister told a television station.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament directive for students not to pay the BECE fee comes after President Nana-Addo last year announced his government has foot the national exams registration fees of public Junior High Schools.

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in last year’s State of the Nation Address said the absorption of final year students BECE for School registration fees forms part of the academic intervention support programme.

Asked when the 2022 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will commence, the Minister in charge of Education said the Ghana Education Service (GES) at the appropriate time will communicate the date to students.

“Because of the change from the semester system to trimester system this academic year, we are still working on a suitable date to administer the 2022 BECE for School. The GES and WAEC will announce the date soon,” he stated.

Hon Osei Yaw has disclosed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) the first week of March 2022 will release the provisional results of Junior High School (JHS) graduates who sat for the 2021 edition of BECE school.

He last week told Accra-based United Television (UTV), the 2021 BECE for School results have been delayed amid some script marking challenges the Management of the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) says it has addressed.
