The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum early Monday, July 26, 2021, inaugurated and sworn former Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo as the chairperson of the University of Ghana, Legon (UG) new Governing Council.
The inauguration and sworn-in ceremony took place at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education, Accra.
The Council after shortly after the ceremony appointed Prof. Nana Aba Amfo, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Students Affairs of the university to act as the Vice-Chancellor of the leading university in Ghana.
Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo effective August 1, 2021, will take over from Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu who will be ending his term of office as University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor on July 31, 2021.
Mrs Nana Aba will not only be the first woman, but also the youngest to serve as the Vice-Chancellor of the leading university in the country if she is confirmed as substantive Vice-Chancellor by the Council.
She will be joining the likes of KNUST’s Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson and former University of Cape Coast VC, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as the first females to serve as Vice-Chancellors in the country.
