The Minister for Education, Dr Adutwum says his passion to be a teacher goes beyond the salary because teaching according to him is a profession that comes with a reward as compared to any other job in the world.
Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum announced this speaking at the launch of the 90th Anniversary of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) monitored by Educationweb.com.gh on Tuesday.
His comment comes after the President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers, Mrs Philippa Larsen called on the government to consider improving the welfare of teachers and improve their condition of service.
According to him, the inner satisfaction that a teacher gets from teaching is second to none adding that “when I see chalk or a board marker I can’t stop holding it because that is where I derived the most enjoyable moment”.
“I am of member of a teacher union so when we talk about we leave to teach that is why I can stop teaching when I visit schools, I love teaching because it’s the most rewarding profession in the world,” he stated.
The Teaching Minister during his vetting by the Member’s of Parliament Appointment Committee on February 11, 2021, said he will still go to the classroom to teach even after he is approved as the Education Minister.
“I’m a ‘teacher-in-chief’ and when I become the Minister, you’ll see me with a marker teaching in the classroom,” He told the Appointment Committee.
