The Gyaama Pensan Senior High Technical School (SHTS) in the Afigya-Kwabre District has emerged the winner of the 2021 edition of the ‘SHS Renewable Energy Challenge’, organized for Senior High Schools in the Ashanti Region.
Gyaama Pensan defeated top-class Ashanti Region SHSs like Obuasi Senior High/Technical, Konongo Odumasi SHS, Kumasi Academy, Juaben SHS, Agona Senior High/Technical and Al-Azharia SHS to win the competition.
The Afigya-Kwabre-based Senior High School (SHS) will represent the Region at the Zonal competition scheduled for August 16 to 20, 2021.
The schools took turns explaining their project work on how renewable energy could solve national energy issues to ensure efficiency and economic growth.
Their presentations covered areas encompassing ‘Traffic Wind Turbine’, ‘Fuelless Energy Generation’, ‘PICO Hydro PVC Turbine’ and ‘Optimum Use of Photovoltaic Panel’.
Other topics ranged from ‘Hybrid Zeolite-Biomass’, ‘Solar Oven’, ‘Sustainable Energy Supply’ to ‘Cocoa Seedlings on Sliding Aluminum Tray’.
The participating schools of the 3rd edition of the Energy Commission Senior High Schools Renewable Energy Challenge were each given a certificate and cash of GH₵ 500.00.
The Grand Finale of the Challenge aimed to develop the research skills of SHS students and promote technological innovation in renewable energy and energy efficiency will be held at the Accra International Conference Centre on October 14, 2021, as part of the 7th Ghana Renewable Energy Fair.
