GES temporarily closes schools in Koforidua amid funeral

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has approved a request for all schools in Koforidua to be closed down on Monday regarding the final funeral rites of the late Daasebre Oti Boateng who was the Paramount Chief of New Juaben.
The temporal school closure comes after the Eastern Regional Director of the GES sought permission to close all basic schools on Monday, May 16, 2022, to climax the final funeral rites of the late paramount chief and queen-mother.
The Directorate in a letter copied to EducationWeb cited inquisitiveness and curiosity on the part of its pupils for the request for closure of schools in the municipal noting that there will be a display of acts like “gun shootings.”
“The New Juabeng Traditional Council has indicated that the climax of the funeral period is Monday, May 16, 2022. The final funeral rites come with all its features viz ban on noise-making, the closing of shops, etc
We to seek your permission to suspend all school sessions on the said day for schools in the Municipal to avert any unforeseen circumstances and to offer maximum respect to the Traditional Council during the said period,” it stated.
