Here’s why GES introduced semester system for JHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) says Junior High School (JHS) are starting the 2021/2022 academic year January this year with a semester system in other to recover lost contact hours and cover more topics.

Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) disclosed this speaking on PeaceFM’s Kokrokoo show monitored by Educationweb.com.gh on January 5, 2021.

“So the semester system is to enable JHS recover lost instructional hours amid the outbreak of the unexpected global coronavirus pandemic and also have enough time to cover more topics”, he told host of Kokrokoo show.

According to him, JHS students when returned back to school on 18th January 2021 for the first semester will vacate on June 12, 2021, and resume on 6th July for the second semester of the 2021/2022 academic year.
