GES postpones reopening date of SHS 1 students

Ghana’s Education Service (GES) after consultations with stakeholders has announced Thursday, March 18, 2021, as the school reopening date for the 2020 BECE graduates to report to their various enrolled Senior High School.
The new school reporting date comes after GES Director-General, in an interview with UTV monitored by Educationweb.com.gh said his outfit is reviewing the 10th March reopening date indicated on the enrolment form.
“Form 1 SHS students will report to school on March 10 as earlier scheduled but we are in consultations with the Head of schools on a new school reopening date and a new date to start academic activities,” he stated.
But, the spokeswoman for GES in a letter copied to Educationweb.com.gh has said the 4th batch of the Free SHS beneficiaries will report to school from Thursday, March 18, 2021, to Sunday, March 21, 2021.
According to GES, this will enable the first-year SHS students to have ample time to prepare for teaching and learning and also for Management of various Senior High Schools to prepare to welcome the fresh students.
Academic activities for this academic year, it said will commence fully on Monday, March 22, 2021, for the Form 1 Senior High School (SHS) students.
The Service also indicated Heads of Senior High Schools has been asked to take a mid-semester break from Monday, March 8 to Thursday, March 11.

“This mid-semester break is not compulsory and so students who wish to stay on campus must be guided to adhere to school rules,” GES added.
