A purported statement from the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS) sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh is asking all heads of basic schools to pause the signing of the performance contract with the Ghana Education Service.
The suspension of the signing of the performance contract with the employer (Ghana Education Service) according to the release is to ensure the government and parents fulfil their obligation on the part of the contract.
Concerns contributing to suspension are lack of textbooks on the new curriculum, no capitation for 2 years, inadequate furniture in schools and delay of upgrading since 2018 which should be a motivation to the teacher.
According to the Conference of Heads of Basic Schools (COHBS), the employer is only interested in the employees signing performance contracts and not taking into consideration the welfare of the teachers.
The leadership of COHBS comprising National Executive Officers and Chairpersons, Secretaries and Treasurers of the 16 Administrative Regions has therefore asked headteachers to abort signing that document until further notice.
