The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted Mr Donkor Francis, the headmaster of Jachie Pramso Senior High School after he caned to wound a final year student identified as Mary Amoako sitting the ongoing WASSCE.
Mr Kwasi Kwarteng, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education (MoE) in a communique sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said the 2021 female WASSCE candidate has been to the hospital and is doing very well.
“On behalf of the Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum I got in touch with Mary; the student of Jachie Pramso SHS who was allegedly canned by her headteacher. She has been to the hospital and she is doing very well,” he stated
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Education Ministry, the Jachie Pramso headmaster on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, was asked to leave post as the head of the school for investigations into the matter to commence.
“Mr Francis Donkor has been directed to hand over the administration and Management of the Jachie Pramso Senior High School (JAPASS) to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education,” the Education Ministry’s spokesman noted.
19-year-old Mary Amoako, according to eyewitnesses was beaten severely for helping a male colleague whose unprescribed shirt was seized and asked to put on a school uniform before he returns to the classroom.
According to them, the General Arts student after the headmaster seized the shirt gave the male student her jacket to wear since he came to class without wearing a uniform, a situation that they say got the head of school angry.
Speaking to reporters, Mary said “I gave the boy my jacket after the head ceased his shirt and left. But our head later saw the boy going to the dormitory wearing a jacket which belongs to me, so he gave me several lashes at my back.”
A source familiar with the matter yesterday told EducationWeb.com.gh appropriate measures have been put in place by the Guidance and Counselling Director of the Ghana Education Service (GES) for a thorough investigation.
