The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) official speaking to EducationWeb’s Eric Owusu Banahene said his outfit usually commences the marking of the examination scripts three weeks after the conduct of the last WASSCE paper.

“Over 15,000 examiners across the country will partake in the marking of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination scripts. The marking usually starts 3 weeks after the administration of the examination,” he stated.

He said the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) this year has put in place adequate measures to place to ensure contact details of examiners contracted to mark the WASSCE papers do not leak as it happened last year.

According to him, the Management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) this year has identified and addressed the technical failure that led to the unfortunate mass leakage of examiners details in 2020.

His assurance comes after some confidential believed to be a profile of examiners who were hired by the Examinations Council to mark last year’s WASSCE for School answer booklets leaked on the public domain (social media).

It was unclear who or how the contact details leaked on the internet, but the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) responsible for the conduct of the WASSCE in a statement admitted the leaks saying it was unintentional.

The Head of National Office – WAEC, Mrs Wendy Addy-Lamptey addressing the media on the issue said the unintentional leakage of some examiners details on the public domain will not compromise the marking process.

“So yes something went out but then the revised examiner’s list that we are using will not affect or compromise the marking process and integrity of the examination,” Mrs Wendy Addy-Lamptey told journalists at a press briefing.

A total of 446,321 made up of 221,437 males and 234,884 females from 965 schools (651 public schools and 314 private schools) are partaking in the ongoing international examination administered at 763 centres nationwide

The 2021 edition of the WASSCE for School which commenced on Monday, August 16, 2021, with the administration of the Visual Art project work ended smoothly on Friday, October 8, 2021, at various examination centres.
