Ghanaians following the enormous contribution of Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister in charge of Education in the country’s education sector has named him among the best performed Minister’s for the 2021 academic year.
His Excellency President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo early this year swore in the Bosomtwe Member of Parliament, Hon Yaw Osei Adutwum to serve as the Minister for Education to serve in his second term government
Dr Adutwum who replaced Matthew Opoku Prempeh as the Minister for Education from 2017 to 2020 served as the Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Pre-tertiary education in Nana Akufo-Addo’s first term government.
He in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh said he recommended the double track system currently used in some Senior High Schools to contain the enrollment of Free SHS beneficiaries to His Excellency Akufo-Addo.
The Educationist in the interview indicated his suggestion of the green and gold track system was based on his 10 years experience of the system when he was a teacher in the USA prior to his appointment as Education Minister.
According to the teaching Minister, the double track system first started in the United States, California in 1994, a system he said the country has used for over 10 years in some of their schools to increase students enrollment.
“It was not easy to explain the double-track system to the President and the Education Ministry because it was foreign and was going to affect so many people, including owners of private SHSs”, he told host Kumasi-based Pure FM.
He currently has said the country in the next academic year will witness innovations in the education sector adding that his outfit in due course will introduce an E-deployment to make postings of newly trained teachers smooth.
The E-deployment, Hon Dr Yaw Adutwum in charge of Education said will come with an incentive and other juicy packages to motivate the newly trained posted teachers to make the teaching profession attractive to them.
“We will soon start what we call teacher incentive program to ensure promotion and study leave of new teachers posted to rural places to are prioritised, we are working to make teaching attractive,” he told Wontumi radio station.
