Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum speaking to the media in Parliament on Thursday said his outfit will investigate the poor performance of the final year students in the WAEC international examination for improvement in 2020.

“Actually the average is 60% certain subjects rate went up, others dipped but if you put in average is still 60%. So if you look at English and Maths, for example, there was a dip but Integrated Science saw a huge jump,” he stated.

The Education Minister furthered that “I want to assure you that Mathematics should not see a dip in my time as somebody who is Mathematician, we are going to look at what went wrong and see what we can do.”

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament assured that increasing the pass rate of English Language and Mathematics in the next academic year will guarantee a higher rate of entry into various public universities in the country.

Mr Adutwum assurance comes after the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Tuesday, December 8, 2021, announced 238,539 of the 446,352 candidates who sat for the examination had A1-C6 in core Mathematics.

The Council also said a total number of 1,339 subject results and 174 entire results have been cancelled for various examination malpractices such as bringing foreign material including mobile phones into the examination hall.

“The entire results of 3,667 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of exams malpractice detected during and after the conduct of WASSCE,” it said in a post sighted by EducationWeb.

WAEC further disclosed the scripts of candidates from 194 schools in certain subjects have also been withheld and are being examined. The withheld results it said may be cancelled or released based on the outcome of the investigations.

The non-profit-making organization (WAEC) as it releases the results has cautioned candidates and the general public to be wary of unscrupulous individuals who contact them to upgrade the 2021 WASSCE School results for a fee.

The West African Examinations Council is cautioning all stakeholders, especially candidates to be on the alert and not fall prey to the activities of scammers who promise to upgrade results for a fee.

Candidates are to note that all WAEC results are secured and can be authenticated. Institutions are therefore urged to always verify results presented to them to expose incidents of forgery,” the Examination Body advised in a blog post.
