Jonathan Dzunu speaking on 3FM’s Sunrise show monitored by EducationWeb on Tuesday said there is a need for the National Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education to release funds for the payment of the allowances.

TTAG leader told the host of the ‘Sunrise show’ that some of the trainee students solely rely on the allowances to pay their examination fees. “They are three weeks to examination and the allowances have not been released,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the central government has released GH¢ 67,942,652.00 to the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) to cater for feeding of students in the various Teacher Training Institutions across the country.

The swift release of the feeding fund comes after the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) announced Colleges of Education (CoE) students from May 8 will fund their feeding until further notice.

PRINCOF in a letter to the Ministry of Education said the decision for trainee students to feed themselves follows the inability of the management of Colleges of Education to make payments for food items supplied to them.

“Most Colleges of Education now have food items that can last only one week if students are to be provided with three (3) meals a day,” The Principals of Colleges of Education said in a letter to the Minister for Education, Dr Adutwum.

But, the Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutuwm speaking to journalists said the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has released an amount to PRINCOF to ensure the teacher trainees are not starved after the 2022 Easter break.

“I know you may have heard the media reports, many calling on us to hear the plight of PRINCOF, the government has intervened by releasing GHC67,942,662 to all Colleges of Education,” the Bosomtwe lawmaker told the media.
