According to the list sighted by Educationweb.com.gh, food items including Free SHS mackerel, sardine, sugar, are imported outside the country whilst soya beans, gari, rice, margarine, among others are locally sourced.

The Executive Director of Africa Education Watch, Mr Kofi Asare this earlier week alleged a company has been contracted by the Akufo-Addo government to supply Chinese mackerel to various Senior High Schools.

According to him, the government since January 2021 after the school reopened has limited the number of eggs purchased from large scale poultry farmers for the Free SHS beneficiaries amid the mackerel.

The Education Economist further alleged that the supply of Chinese mackerel to schools has reduced egg consumption by 70% and created unemployment especially among poultry farmers in the country
