The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, this year has announced Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), formerly known as Kumasi Polytechnic as the best technical university in the country.
The Kumasi-based technical university was ranked 1st among the Technical Universities in Ghana and 8th among all Ghanaian universities comprising both public and private universities.
A total of 68 Ghanaian universities including the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) as well as the University of Cape Coast getting the first top 3rd positions respectively.
The best Technical University was ranked 1st based on (public knowledge shared), Impact (web contents impact), Openness (top-cited researchers) and Excellence (top-cited papers).
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities, is one of the largest ranking system for all universities based on a composite indicator that takes into account both the volume of the web content (number of web pages and files) and the visibility and impact of these web publications according to the number of external links they receive.
The ranking is published by the Cyber metrics Lab, a research group of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) located in Madrid.
The aim of the Ranking is to improve the presence of the academic and research institutions on the web and also, to promote the open access publication of scientific results. The ranking started in 2004 and is updated every January and July.
