The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has noticed WASSCE and BECE question papers are leaked by some unfaithful supervisors after they have taken them from the WAEC depot, a staff of the Council has disclosed.
Speaking in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh, the WAEC official said the supervisors take screenshots of the WAEC examination question papers and forward them to teachers and schools for reasons best known to them.
“Ahead of any WAEC examination, the question papers are sent to the various depots’ but some supervisors after taking the questions from the depots take screenshots of them send to teachers and heads of schools,” she stated.
Asked what measures have been put in place to check such practices, Mrs Rosemond said supervisors and invigilators this year have been warned not to send mobile phones or any internet-connected device to the examination centres.
“WAEC has asked the supervisors and invigilators not to send in their mobile phones to examination halls and also Police personnel will escort the supervisors in the distribution of the papers to various exam centres,” she added.
Mrs Rosemond Wilson, the Head, Post Examinations Department – WAEC said she is confident the effective measures put in place by her outfit will ensure the successful conduct of the forthcoming BECE and ongoing 2021 WASSCE.
In a related development, the spokeswoman for WAEC, Mrs Agnes Teye Cudjoe, Wednesday said a prospective candidate of Dadieso SHS partaking in the ongoing WASSCE was arrested for engaging in examination malpractice.
She also disclosed an invigilator who doubles as a teacher of the Dadieso Senior High School is currently wanted by the WAEC security operatives for taking a snapshot of the arrested but bailed candidate’s Oral English paper.
