According to the Management of Ashesi University, 10 students of the Ashesi have tested positive for the locally transmitted coronavirus in the last two weeks since it commenced COVID-19 testing for students.
It will be recalled that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in his 22nd televised nation’s address directed for students to return back to school mid-January this year to start the 2021/2022 academic year.
Ashesi University in a communique sighted by Educationweb.com.gh said the university will be opened for students who wish to study on campus but will still continue academic activities online for this semester.
But, the private university in a blog post has disclosed 10 (4.7% of tests) from the students screening for COVID-19 were positive for the novel virus.
“All cases had no visible symptoms, have been provided isolated accommodation on campus, and are currently receiving treatment mild symptoms from the Ashesi health team, with guidance from the Ghana Health Service,” the leading private university in Ghana stated.
According to Ashesi, 2 members of the Ashesi community; Board member, Patrick Nutor; and Associate Dean of Student Life and Engagement, Frances Awuah-Kyerematen have lost their lives to the coronavirus pandemic.
