Adutwum gives update on 2022 graduate teachers recruitment

Govt releases GH¢200m for Free SHS feeding, perishables

The Minister for Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum after giving hope last year that more teachers will be employed this year says his outfit is waiting to be given financial clearance for the 2022 graduate teachers recruitment early this year.

In a discussion monitored by EducationWeb, he said the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has assured it early this academic year will grant the Ministry of Education clearance for Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit the graduate teachers.

“We last year petitioned the Ministry of Finance to increase the clearance for graduate teachers to be recruited in 2021 but it was agreed for only 16,850 newly trained teachers to be recruited so we will, recruit them this year

The Education Ministry (MoE) is hoping early this year, the Finance Ministry gives financial clearance for graduate teachers to be employed by the Ghana Education Service to support Free SHS/TVET,” the Teaching Minister said.

The Bosomtwe Member of Parliament indicated newly trained public Colleges of Education teachers will first be recruited by the Education Service responsible for posting teachers before universities teachers are considered.

“The last 4 years we have hired 93,000 teachers and the majority of them were graduate teachers for Free SHS but what we are doing now is focusing on basic schools so we are hoping to get clearance to recruit graduates,” he said today.

The Minister in charge of Education explained that since the graduate teachers were not trained by the various government Colleges of Education (CoE) their recruitment for this school academic year will take some time.

In a related development, a staff of the Ministry of Education (MoE) has last month disclosed his outfit in mid-January 2022 as part of the recruitment process sent a financial clearance request to the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

“The Ministry has sent a request to the Ministry of Finance for financial clearance to recruit the graduates, they did the basic school clearance for us now we are going to request graduate clearance,” the MoE official told EducationWeb.

According to him, the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) will only consider graduate teachers who have completed national service and passed the teacher licensure examination for the soon to start 2022 recruitment.
