MoE petition MoF to increase number of teachers to be recruited

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has petitioned the Ministry of Finance (MoF) to increase the total number of newly trained teachers to be recruited per the financial clearance given to the Ghana Education Service (GES) this year.

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh said the addition will allow GES to consider newly trained teachers from private Colleges of Education for recruitment into service.

“We have now received the figure of teachers to recruit this year and we have petitioned the Ministry of Finance to increase the numbers, we are working on that for them to be recruited in due course,” the Minister said on Monday.

The Ministry of Finance mid-November this year announced it has granted the Education Ministry financial clearance for the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit 16,850 newly trained teachers for the service.

“Financial clearance is hereby granted to the Minister for Education to enable the Director-General of Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit sixteen thousand, eight hundred and fifty (16,850) newly trained teachers for the service

Approval is also granted for their emolument to be charged against the compensation of Employees vote of the Ministry of Education in the 2020 budget,” a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Finance stated.

It continued “the Director-General of GES is to ensure that the new teachers have their documents processed in time and placed on mechanized payroll to enable the Controller and Accountant General to work on their payment.”

The Ministry of Finance said the effective date of the appointment should not be earlier than December 1, 2021, adding that the financial clearance granted to the Ministry expires end of December and cannot be used thereafter.
